Video games to make you scream this Halloween

The spooky season is upon us and what better way to partake than to immerse yourself in another world. Let’s take a look at some of the newest and spookiest games out this Halloween.


Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone have a few horrifying things to kick off the spooky season. Season 6 of Warzone, The Haunting of Verdansk, introduces iconic horror villains from the SAW franchise and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These character additions will offer a spine tingling feature to matches. A trick or treat reward system will also see players receive frightening supply drops or treat them to extra goodies, like personalised items or blueprints. The Haunting of Verdansk is out now. Call of Duty: Warzone is free to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC. 


Pumpkin Jack is an independently developed title published by Headup Games and impressively developed by just one person, Nicolas Meyssonnier. In this spooky 3D platformer you play as the bad guy, Pumpkin Jack, on a mission to make evil rule over the good. If you’re into games like MediEvil, Pumpkin Jack is for you. Pumpkin Jack is coming to Xbox, Switch, PC on October 23, as well as PlayStation later this year – there’s also a free demo available on Steam.

Doom Eternal, the hugley sequel to the franchise reboot of Doom, just had its first DLC drop, The Ancient Gods Part One. Nothing like some first-person demon slaying to help you battle the Halloween nightmares. Experience a number of new enemies and levels in this latest expansion, survive the depths of the ocean as you’re dropped into an oceanic research base. You can play Doom Eternal now on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Doom Eternal will also get a free upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.


In Vampyr you play as a freshly turned vampire on a quest to find the one that did this to you. Vampyr is a third-person action adventure game set in London in the 1800s. Vampyr was first released in 2018 but this month PlayStation Plus members can get it for free.


While not exactly new, there’s always an appetite for the Resident Evil franchise. The survival horror games have been making us shriek and squeal for a generation, and they’re not stopping any time soon. With the recent announcement of Resident Evil 8: Village, coming to PS5 next year, Resident Evil 7 and the recently remastered games won’t let you down. Resident Evil 7 is playable on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.


There’s really something for everyone when it comes to gaming, Animal Crossing’s latest update includes a Halloween event – perfect for the kids.

If you’re looking for something less terrifying, something more in the cute cuddly category,  Animal Crossing (Nintendo Switch) has you covered with their Halloween event. There’s a variety of cute and spooky activities for you and your villagers. Decorate your house and village with special Halloween themed items, grow pumpkins, trick or treat with your villagers and meet the spirit of Halloween, Jack. The Animal Crossing Halloween event ends on October 31.
