Predicting what will resonate in gaming is a fickle prospect.
Soccer with flying cars sounds about as stupid as it gets until you pick up a controller and have the most intense competitive experience in Psyonix’s Rocket League.
Now Ubisoft, with all of it’s triple-A weight, is throwing itself behind ‘Roller Champions’.
Roller-skating mixed with brutal tackles and team based action? Yes please.
Colourful, quick and packed with classic 90’s attitude, the core gameplay looks simple with the potential for different rule sets to keep things dynamic.
Am I confident it will capture core and casual gamers alike? Absolutely not.
Free-to-play is a great start and you can play the E3 demo via Ubisoft’s new UPlay streaming service here.
Personally, I just love that Ubisoft is taking the risk.
Roller Champions releases in early 2020.
